Charlotte Cornish -
Painter and printmaker
The dominant theme of my work is the nature of human
experience. Creating tensions and harmonies through the use of colour
and form, I try to communicate visually a sense of what it feels like to
be alive.
Travel abroad has always provided a rich source of
inspiration for my work. I have been drawn to visiting places where
colour and cultural richness are abundant. In recent years I have
visited the North African countries of Marrakech, Cairo, and Tunisia.
The markets here are full of colour, activity, exotic smells and an
intense experience of the unfamiliar. All these impressions I try to
explore visually in my work.
I work mainly using acrylic paint on canvas. By
contrasting numerous translucent poured layers of paint with direct,
dynamic, opaque
gestural
marks, I try to create an initial visual impact that is revealed to be
more subtle on closer inspection; the semitransparent layers also
revealing the physical history of the making of the painting. Strong,
vibrant colour and bold, gestural marks feature in both my paintings and
prints.
I regularly exhibit work and my work is also handled by
numerous art consultancies, selling to both private and corporate
clients. |
